Who We Are
Spicy Kitchen is a 10-acre regenerative farm located in New Kent County, Virginia. Dr. Sasikumar Balasundaram (Sasi), who owns and runs the Spicy Kitchen Farm, is an anthropologist, farmer, and chef. He established the farm for his environmental activism and community building. Spicy Kitchen Farm is more than a business; it is also a teaching and learning center. Sasi believes in and practices a pedagogy that uses food as a tool to teach and learn about the interdependent relationship between nature and humanity. Sasi believes in waging peace with food in a world that produces weapons to wage war.

Sasi’s farming practice is based upon an eco-theology learned from his grandmother, Sellama (the Goddess of Love), who believed in Mother Earth’s preferential treatment. Sasi believes in defending and protecting our Earth, home to humans and billions of other species. Spicy Kitchen Farm specializes in growing produce, fruits, and spices in Indian, Asian, and Middle-Eastern cuisines. If you want to taste Indian subcontinent cuisine and other global regions, please stop by our booth every Saturday at the Williamsburg Farmers Market in Historic Colonial Williamsburg.
